What transport options are there?

Repatriation by Air?

The most direct and convenient method which can often be arranged within hours, this service supports a wide range of medical conditions from intensive care to acute and long-term illness and serious accidents. Repatriation is often achieved through the use of Air ambulance services which are equipped with a highly trained medical team, and equipment to provide multiple levels of medical care.

Chartered air ambulance services for private families, individuals, and insurance companies play a vital role in many critical, life-threatening, and emergency events and are often recommended for people who are too ill or injured to endure commercial flights.

Repatriation by Road?

For patients who require transfer Nationally or from European countries, and is some cases, may not require immediate emergency care, repatriation by road is the best method in the event that air ambulance transfer is not suitable.  Road ambulances can take patients long distances and are equipped with advanced mattresses, equipment and a medical team that can keep patients comfortable over many, often thousands of kilometres.

How much does it cost?

This depends on multiple factors including distance, interventions needed, mode of transport, logistics and the grade of healthcare professional needed. We can assist patients directly or privately in addition to undertaking corporate and insurance cases.

What is the process for booking an Airline Medical Escort?

The first port of call would be to contact us to discuss the patients’ needs. We can then inform you of the most suitable transport options.

We require a simple booking form to be completed (accessible form our website or via email if you prefer). This Allows us to remotely assess the patients’ specific needs and will be used as the basis for us to provide a quote.

We will then provide a quote with a personalised transfer / repatriation plan and advise on the Medical Grade of staff required (Carer, Medic, Nurse, Paramedic or Doctor etc).

If you wanted to proceed, we would then be able to progress making the final arrangements and obtaining a fitness to fly certificate. A copy of the patients’ medical notes would also be needed, to enable any airline authorisation, of which, A B Medical Services (UK) Ltd, deal with.

What about getting to and from the Airport?

We will assist in booking any other travel arrangements. This may include Ambulances to transfer patients from their care facility to the Airport or Private Jet and vice Versa.

In the UK, We can offer this transport as part of our package via our Care Quality Commission Ground Ambulance service. This offers a truly Door to Door service.

What happens on the day?

Once a patient has been assessed and cleared for medical escort transport via a commercial airline, all of the details including; arranging a commercial flight, acquiring flight tickets, arranging ground transportation, and completing the necessary paperwork with the airline company will be coordinated and arranged by Us.

Our medical team will meet with the patient at their medical facility or at the airport in some cases. Our team will then undertake a medical assessment to ensure that the patient is still fit to fly. We will then assist with travel through the airport and boarding. We also deal with any airport assistance needed, such as Wheelchairs or buggies etc.

The patient will be accompanied by a skilled medical crew member such as a Doctor, Registered Flight Paramedic, Nurse or Technician who have been trained for altitude medical treatment. The Team will also have a range of emergency kit and medications with them should they be needed. For patients who meet airline minimum requirements, airline medical escort is the safest, quickest, and most cost-efficient way to transfer patients that have limited medical needs.

By using commercial scheduled airline travel, we can offer patients the option of fully lay flat beds for most of the transfer. This also offers the much-needed privacy in smaller, discreet, comfortable, and more personal cabins with premium airline partners.

Where are you based in the UK?

We are based in the Southeast of England, UK. We are within proximity to all the major London Airports including Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, Stansted, Brighton, Biggin Hill in additional to smaller airfields.
